Abstract: The objective of this thematic axis is to bring together researchers who have used comic books as testimonies of human experiences in time and space. Although the use of these historical sources and/or cultural products is not new, research involving them in relation to media culture and digital technologies is gaining increasing prominence. In light of this reality, it is necessary to create spaces for discussion and sharing of sources and references that can bring together interested parties from various parts of the country and the world to present and discuss their practices, methodologies, and difficulties related to the analysis of narratives, aesthetics, and educational possibilities.
Objectives:
-
Understanding how historical narratives are represented in comics helps to understand how pop culture and/or the cultural industry shapes and is shaped by historical perception.
-
To discuss the possibilities of using comics in historical research and in teaching across various scientific fields, problematizing the sources and methodologies involved.
-
To observe the formation of cultural identity and how historical representations in comics contribute to social formation, as well as how they enable the construction of collective narratives and shared memories, influencing how people see themselves and their past;
-
To observe how popular media makes history more accessible to a broad audience. Studying these representations can reveal how history is simplified or dramatized for educational and entertainment purposes, and how this affects public understanding of historical events.
-
To share experiences in teaching, research, and outreach related to the topic.
Target audience: Basic and higher education teachers; undergraduate and graduate students in the field; librarians, archivists, and other professionals in the field of documentation and information and in the humanities.
